What is hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing is a childbirth education method and technique that aims to help expectant parents have a calm and positive birthing experience.

It is based on the idea that fear and tension can lead to more pain and discomfort during childbirth, and that relaxation and mental preparation can lead to a smoother and more comfortable birthing process.

The term "hypnobirthing" might lead some to believe that it involves being in a deep trance or hypnotic state, but in reality, it's more about achieving a state of deep relaxation and focus.

The techniques aim to create a sense of control and confidence during labour, it is designed to release fear and build confidence in the birthing process.

Do I need to be a first-time parent to attend the class?

No. Many of my clients attend having had an uncomfortable or negative previous birthing experience. They want to explore a new, different, more positive approach to childbirth.

At what stage of pregnancy should I attend?

You can attend the course at any stage of your pregnancy. Most people attend between 24 and 34 weeks, but some do it before. One of my clients attended at 39 weeks — it’s never too late.

I have guided couples only days prior to giving birth and they still benefited from doing the course. However, the sooner you start, the more time you have to practice getting into the right mindset.

How big are the groups?

Usually between 4 and 10 couples attend the course. They are small enough to be interactive and large enough to be friendly.

It can be hugely beneficial to do the course in a group setting, where you will meet like- minded expectant couples, exchange ideas, and learn from their questions.

Does the cost cover couples?

Yes. The cost covers you to attend as an individual or bring your partner.

How long does it take?

The total tuition time is about 10 hours. I teach the course over two consecutive days.

I have found this to be more effective than a single day, and has been the preferred option for most couples.

Can I just attend for 1 day?

I recommend you do two consecutive days to get the most out of the course. I concentrate on the hypnobirthing aspect on Friday evening and the physical birth preparation on Saturday.

However, if your preferences or circumstances mean you can only attend one day, please contact me and I will advise you.

Will my health insurance cover this course?

Yes, to varying degrees. As this is a registered midwife-led course, most health insurance companies will cover partial or full price, depending on your policy.
